Why we are building Curie

Research is fragmented and lonely. You read in one app, take notes in another, and write in a third, and the connections between them live only in your head. We are building Curie because it is the tool we wished we had during our own research: one place to read, organize, and discuss the papers you care about, with AI in the margin instead of another tab.

We are scientists at heart, and the same workflow holds far outside the lab. A historian in the archive, a legal scholar in the library, and a biologist at the bench all do the same thing: read closely, keep track of what matters, and build on the work of others. Curie is for all of them.

That is the mission we keep coming back to: enable the next 100 million researchers, wherever serious inquiry happens.

Who we are

We are a small team of engineers, founded by Filip Victor, who previously built and sold MetaMap, a San Francisco based startup he raised over $100m for. We don’t do hierarchy. We don’t do politics. We are builders who care about science and learning. We are financially independent, self-funded, and answer to no one but ourselves and our users.

Who we are looking for

We want people who use code to explore the world, the kind who go down a rabbit hole on a hard topic at 2 AM.

• Independent: You don’t need a manager to tell you what to do.
• Obsessive: You care about the craft. Usually that means going deep to understand the root cause rather than patching the symptom.
• User-builders: You have to love the product. If you don’t use Curie to learn, you can’t build Curie for others.

We aren’t hiring employees; we are looking for partners. We want engineers who are as comfortable discussing philosophy, economics, or any other field over a meal as they are optimizing database queries.
