Just finished this — really nice historical framing for something that could easily just be a wall of ODEs. The classical three-body problem keeps teaching the same hard lesson: a simple setup does not guarantee a simple fate.

Lagrange's reduction from 18 equations to 7 is not just bookkeeping — it is the discovery of a hidden symmetry. Jacobi vectors make that symmetry visible; Poincaré's non-integrability result then arrives with real force. The lesson, if there is one, is that a deceptively simple setup can still refuse a closed-form fate.
